Since 1917 the Rapp Motorenwerke in Munich has called itself Bayrische Motorenwerke (BMW). After producing aircraft engines and also motorcycles after 1920, BMW went 1928 into the automobile business. The brand of BMW is the propeller circle (symbol of flying) combined with the Bavarian national colors.
